Cloud City Mountain Sports is overseen by a volunteer board of three to seven members who are elected by the coaches, parents, and athletes who are involved with our programs.

Ben Cairns - President
Ben Cairns has been the Vice President and Campus Dean of the Leadville and Salida campuses since the fall summer of 2021. Prior to that, Ben was the principal of Lake County High School for five years. He is a Denver area native with a long career in education including time teaching in Uganda, developing a restorative justice program for Denver Public Schools, and opening a public charter high school in Denver. In Ben's role at CMC, the home of one of 2 Ski Area Operations programs in the US, he engages often with the ski industry and teaches CMC courses in Ski Area Operations.
Ben grew up skiing and loving the outdoors in Denver. He skied primarily at Loveland, but also skied at A-Basin, Copper and Keystone. He started coaching SKi racing at Loveland in 2007 and has been coaching skiing ever since. He switched to CCMS in 2016 and has coached YSL, MS, HS and Big Mountain Comps. Ben is a USSS Level 100 coach and has engaged in countless professional development opportunities and is slowly working on furthering his coaching education. Currently Ben is the president of CCMS, heads up the Alpine program and coaches the HS Alpine Race Team.
Kerry Vanderweit
Kerry Vanderweit joined the CCMS Board in the Spring of 2023, and has two children who have been participating in and benefitting from our programs since 2019. Kerry has been in the retail sector of the outdoor industry since 1998, when she started as a salesperson for Galyan's Sports and Outdoors in her hometown of Carmel, Indiana. It was there she developed a passion for skiing, through industry-sponsored ski and mountaineering trips to Colorado, Wyoming and Washington. She has held multiple leadership roles in retail, including VP of Visual Merchandising for Gart Sports, which brought her to Colorado in 2001. Kerry holds a MA in Literature and BS in psychology from Texas A&M; she has sumitted Mt. Rainier, the Grand Teton, and multiple Colorado fourteeners, and loves being in the mountains with her family and two Mountain Dogs. A full time Leadville resident, Kerry works for Vail Resorts, where she currently serves as the Sr. Director of Commercial Leasing and Store Development for the retail and rental division.
Carrie Mallozzi
Outdoor enthusiast, mother of two CCMS athletes and local wedding planner is proud to be a part the growth and development of an organization that supports athletic and personal growth while also staying committed to offering affordable programs for our community. Having grown up ski racing at her local ski hill she has fond memories of ripping around the slopes and traveling to other small ski resorts in the midwest with friends and loves seeing Leadville kids doing the same.
