Ben Cairns has been the Vice President and Campus Dean of the Leadville and Salida campuses since the fall summer of 2021. Prior to that, Ben was the principal of Lake County High School for five years. He is a Denver area native with a long career in education including time teaching in Uganda, developing a restorative justice program for Denver Public Schools, and opening a public charter high school in Denver. In Ben's role at CMC, the home of one of 2 Ski Area Operations programs in the US, he engages often with the ski industry and teaches CMC courses in Ski Area Operations.
Ben grew up skiing and loving the outdoors in Denver. He skied primarily at Loveland, but also skied at A-Basin, Copper and Keystone. He started coaching SKi racing at Loveland in 2007 and has been coaching skiing ever since. He switched to CCMS in 2016 and has coached YSL, MS, HS and Big Mountain Comps. Ben is a USSS Level 100 coach and has engaged in countless professional development opportunities and is slowly working on furthering his coaching education. Currently Ben is the president of CCMS, heads up the Alpine program and coaches the HS Alpine Race Team.
