WHAT:

  • Leadville Devo mountain biking is designed to provide skills necessary to cultivate a lifelong joy of biking through building confidence and endurance in a supportive environment.

  • Skills and topics include; biking technique, safety, fitness, outdoor exploration, and service work, trail etiquette, team work, bike maintenance & repairs, nutrition and hydration, first aid, and trail stewardship.

SKILL:

  • This is not a program for beginner riders, we strongly suggest trail/dirt experience.

  • This program is for rising 3rd to 12th grade riders. Those younger than 3rd grade or new to the sport, are encouraged to join Monday Funday rides with the Cloud City Wheelers, or check out programs with Get Outdoors Leadville! Like Rockies Rock or community bike rides.

  • Bikes must be well tuned, have hand brakes, gears and 24”- 29” wheels.

  • Riders must have a good fitting helmet.

  • Athletes will be divided into groups according to skill, experience, motivation, friendships, and coach/child ratios.

WHERE:

Most Fridays we will meet at Dutch Henry with rides taking place at the college and on the east side of Leadville. Riding locations may vary each week. Alternate meeting locations will be communicated with parents.

MORE:

  • Coach to athlete ratio will not exceed a 7:1 ratio.

  • Each team will be limited to 14 riders **

  • Head coaches are CPR and First Aid certified.

  • If cost is a barrier, please apply for a scholarship.

  • Registration fee includes a CCMS bike jersey for athletes new to the program. Returning athletes may purchase a jersey for $40 if they choose.

  • One two hour trail build session per athlete participating is required per session. This can either be completed during the arranged time for the team, or on any Wednesday night with the Coud City Wheelers.

  • Additional details about how to be prepared will be emailed after the application process is complete.

**In an attempt to continue to provide safe, quality programming with our rising numbers, and to better align with our Mission and Vision — Cloud City Mountain Sports, CCMS will begin limiting the number of participants in many of our programs. In order to do this we will be making some changes to our registration processes over the next year. This change will begin with our mountain biking program. Our previous "registration" process will now become an "application" process.

Applications for the Spring 2024 session of mountain biking will be accepted during a two week window, starting April 22 and ending May 5. Applications will not be accepted outside of this window. After the two week window has closed we will review the applications and parents will be notified as soon as possible. If there are more than the allotted 14 participants on each team we will form a wait list.

Participants will be chosen based on the following:

  •  Athletes who have participated in mountain biking in previous years

  • Athletes whose families have completed the required amount of volunteer hours necessary to being a member of CCMS, you can find that information here: Volunteer — Cloud City Mountain Sports I strongly suggest you look at the tracking sheet and make sure that your hours are up to date and accurate.  If you have a question regarding your volunteer status please email sherri@cloudcitymountainsports.org. Remember, CCMS does not exist without our volunteers, and there are many opportunities throughout the year to volunteer.

  • Athletes who have completed their 2 hour trail work requirement from previous session(s)

  • Athletes who are enrolled in Lake or Chaffee County schools

  • Athletes who are able to participate for at least 75% of the practices. Please be as honest and accurate about this in the application as you can. Coaches build on skills for the entirety of each session, it is best if the athlete can come as much as possible. Attendance is also being taken each week and may be taken into account in future sessions.

  • Athletes who applied during the two week window

Looking Ahead:

  • Summer session will run from 7/19- 8/23

  • Fall session will run from 8/30-9/27

  • Application for the next two sessions will open roughly one month before the session, keep an eye out for an email from Sherri
